ANNUAL MEETING

This year’s annual meeting will be held virtually. This is the third consecutive annual meeting to be a virtual presentation. Attendance has been good; members from all over California and out of state have been able to attend (which was not possible for most when meetings were only held onsite in Riverside).

Bourns Employees Federal Credit Union’s (BEFCU) primary concern is the health and safety of members as well as its staff. It continues monitoring health risks related to Covid and information provided by the CDC, State of California, and other health professionals.

For Planning purposes, BEFCU expects to hold its annual meeting the first week of December. Tentatively, Tuesday, December 6, has been selected. The time will be 6 P.M. Confirmation of the date and time will be sent out after the Credit Union’s September Board meeting. Instructions how to join the meeting will be sent out with the confirmation. Reminders with the meeting time, date, and instructions will be sent out again in mid-November and early December. In addition, the meeting time, date, and instructions on how to join the meeting will be posted on BEFCU’s web page. Please join us and find out how your Credit Union is doing.

FOUR POSITIONS ON BEFCU BOARD UP FOR ELECTION

One of the most important events during BEFCU’s annual meeting is the election of Board members. Annually, three or more BEFCU Board of Directors positions come up for election. This year there are four open positions. The Nominating Committee has finished its work; four individuals have been nominated to fill the four open positions on BEFCU’s Board. The following is a brief introduction of the candidates nominated:

Francesca Sparks-Copeland (incumbent) has been a member of Victor Valley Federal Credit Union (VVFCU) since 2011 and was a member of VVFCU’s Board of Directors when it merged with BEFCU in March 2020. She is a retired educator with over 28 years’ experience and is currently teaching at the University level. She is owner of Education Assistance LLC, which supports High Desert families in navigating the educational system. She has several education degrees, including a master’s in Administration, and is currently pursuing her Doctoral degree.

Ruben Carranza (incumbent) has been a member of BEFCU for over 28 years. He has been a member of BEFCU’s Board of Directors for 8 years. He currently serves as Secretary for the Credit Union's Board of Directors. Ruben is Quality Assurance Manager for Bourns, Inc. and has worked for Bourns, Inc. for more than 24 years.

Kevin Martin (new) has a bachelor's degree in business management and has worked for Bourns, Inc. for almost 8 years as Contract Administrator. Kevin completed Board Development Training several years ago. Kevin wants to get more involved and is interested in working with the Credit Union. Kevin recently relocated to Florida and is working remotely. Kevin has been a member of the Credit Union for 5 years.

Paul Lies (new) has a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and has worked for Bourns, Inc. for the past two years. Prior to that, Paul worked in the restaurant industry for 10 years. Paul joined BEFCU in high school and has been a member for over 20 years. Paul is interested in the position because he would like to provide other BEFCU members the same great quality and value that he has received from the Credit Union.

In addition to those nominated, members may also nominate a candidate through the petition process. To do this, a member must collect 55 signatures from credit union members (i.e., 1% of the credit union membership) and return the petition to the attention of: “Board Secretary, Bourns EFCU, 1200 Columbia Avenue, Riverside, CA 92507” no later than October 20, 2022.

If you need additional information about the election or petition process, please contact Ed Casanova, CEO, at 877-426-8767, option 4, or e-mail to befcu@bournsfcu.org.
